Woodie Susie Braden, 94, of Monroe, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at 7:54 PM, Thursday, May 22, 2008, in the Lutheran Home, where she had resided for about 6 years. She had been in poor health for 4 years and seriously ill since Sunday. She was born January 26, 1914 in Arthur, TN to William T. and Sarah Ethel (Sharp) Gray, she moved to Monroe in January 1936 from Arthur, TN. She was first married to Paul Welch, then to Victor Braden on February 27, 1971 in Monroe. Sadly, he passed away on July 8, 1973. She was a charter member of Monroe Free Methodist Church in June, 1968. A homemaker, she was a master quilter who enjoyed cooking, at one time she worked as a cook for C.K. Wesley, former co-owner of the Monroe Evening News. Survivors include a son, Joseph M. (Lisa) Braden of Lafayette, IN, 3 stepsons, Vic (Melody) Braden Jr. of Coto de Caza, CA, Paul (Natalie) Braden of Hilton Head, SC, and Ralph (Cheryl Braden of Aspen, CO, stepdaughter, E. Ruth Moore of Monroe, daughter-in-law, Harriet Welch of Monroe, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, a great great grandson, and several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and step great great grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were a son, Harry P. Welch, 2 great great granddaughters, 3 stepchildren, Donna Schmidt, Daniel Braden, and Betty Morse, and 2 sisters, Vesta Hensley and Dahlia Sowder. Friends may call at the Bacarella Funeral Home on Friday from 5-9 PM, where services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, followed by interment at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Pastor Dale Kaufman of Monroe Free Methodist Church will officiate. Memorial Gifts in her name may be given to the Monroe Free Methodist Church, The Lutheran Home, or Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe
