William B. Hoffer, age 84, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. Bill was born February 25, 1926 in Monroe the son of the late Bernice L. and Mary E. (Derickson) Hoffer. Bill attended Monroe Public Schools. On April 7, 1943 Bill married his wife the former Betty Jane Haman in Monroe. On April 11, 1944 Bill entered the US Air Force and served his country proudly during WWII. On November 6, 1945 Bill was honorably discharged from his service to our country and received the American Theater Service Medal, The WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Bill was employed by Ford Motor Company's Monroe Plant as a maintenance man and a tin smith for 38 years, retiring in 1988. Bill enjoyed bowling in the senior citizens league, playing softball and oil painting. Most of all Bill enjoyed his family. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Betty, 4 children, Barbara (Gene) Greutman of Lambertville, MI, Patricia (Henry) Hudson of Monroe, Nancy (Robert) Brenton of Petersburg, MI and William B. Markgraff of Emmett, ID, a sister; Almeda (Arne) Johnson of Rutland Town, VT, 3 grandchildren; Chad (Kimberly) Greutman, Ryan (Susan) Greutman and Kathryn Miller, and 5 great grandchildren; Owen, Kyle, John, Paul, and Christopher Greutman. In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by his daughter Jacquelyn Miller in November of 1990, and 3 brothers Woodrow, Melvin and Marion. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 16, 2010 from 2-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home. Funeral services and entombment at Roselawn Memorial Park will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
