Obituary

William F. "Womper" Gilstorff, 64 years, a life long resident of Monroe, MI passed away Sunday, May 10, 2009 in his home. Bill had been in declining health for 1½ years. Bill was born February 28, 1945 in Monroe, MI the son of the late Edward F. and Odessa (Geiman) Gilstorff. Bill was a 1963 graduate of Monroe High School. Bill proudly served our country during the Vietnam War, serving as a cook and driver in the US Army from October of 1965 to September of 1967. For his service Bill received the following: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. Bill worked as an upholstered for La Z Boy Chair in Monroe. Bill was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church where he enjoyed playing on the churches softball and dart ball teams. Bill was a life member and a very active member of the VFW Post 1138 in Monroe where he enjoyed cooking for many of the Post's activities. Bill also enjoyed bowling and gardening. Bill is survived by his brother Larry L. (Judith A.) Gilstorff of Maybee, MI, 2 sisters; Ruth Ann (Jerry) Lands of Monroe, MI and Mary Ellen Moyer of Addison, MI and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by a brother Earl Gilstorff, a sister Pearl Boik, 2 brothers in law; Harry Boik and Douglas Moyer and a sister in law Jan Gilstorff. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-9 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd in Monroe. On Thursday, May 14, 2009 he will lie in state at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating his life at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Larry K. Loree Sr. pastor of the church will officiate. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family or to Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.
