William L. Carter, 101, of Monroe, died at 12:10 PM, Wednesday, February 7, 2007 in the Alterra Sterling House of Monroe where he had been since December 2005. He had been in poor health for a month. He was born September 17, 1905 in Galopolis, OH to Byrd "Bert" and Martha (Deering) Carter. He came to Monroe in 1911 from Ohio. He worked in the Box Shop at Southside Consolidated Paper Company for 36 years, retiring October 1, 1970. He is survived by a brother, Harold (Edith) Carter of Ocala, FL, and a sister, Joyce Hulvey of Monroe. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Mattie Carter, Pearl Harris, and Hazel Horvath, and a brother, Donald Carter. Cremation has been held and interment will take place at Woodland Cemetery.
