William (Billy) Bussell Jr., 91, of Monroe, MI went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 1st, 2024.
Billy was born on August 7th, 1932 to William and Ollie (Williams) Bussell in Harrogate, TN. He graduated from Forge Ridge High School in 1950. He wed Shirley (Massengill) Bussell, the love of his life, on January 24th, 1953. He never wanted to spend even a second apart from her in their 71 years of marriage. Their home was forever filled with joy, love, laughter, and Southern home cooking.
Billy served in the Army from 1953-1955 in the 328th helicopter company in Germany. Following his military service, he worked as a plumber/pipe fitter through both Firestone and Motor Wheel before retiring in 1996.
Billy served as a deacon at both Lakeside Missionary Baptist Church of Newport, MI and Liberty Missionary Baptist Church of Monroe, MI. You could find him at church every Sunday with butterscotch and peppermint candies in his pocket. Billy was also extremely handy, and had a love for gardening and Sudoku puzzles. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family, who he absolutely adored. The love he had for God and those close to him was unparalleled.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Shirley Bussell; a daughter, Pamela (David) Glancy; two granddaughters, Kayla (Joshua) Tipton and Alexa Glancy; a great granddaughter, Eleanor Tipton; a sister, Ruth (Thurman) Lambert; a brother, Rev. John E. (Bobbie) Bussell; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Bacarella Funeral Home 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 5th, 2024. The funeral service will proceed the following morning, May 6th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. David McGregor will officiate. Billy will then be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park in La Salle, MI, with military honors performed by VFW Post 1138, Monroe.
