William Henderson ("Rastus", "Rat", or "Grampy") Berry, age 66 of Monroe, passed away Friday, November 10, 2023 in his home surrounded by his loving family. William passed due to complications since being diagnosed with cancer in March.
Born September 4, 1957, in Monroe, William was the son of the late William and Alice (Brown) Berry. After attending Monroe Public Schools, he married Theresa I. LeVasseur on August 2, 1980 in Monroe.
William worked at BMI Incorporated for many years before retiring in 2009. He was a member of Brick Layers Local 2, the National Wild Turkey Federation, the NRA and Pheasants Forever, all organizations he was very fond of.
Outside of his working life and memberships, William enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, welding, attending classic car shows and Bluegrass festivals with his buddies. More than anything William (Grampy) enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly his granddaughter whom he lovingly referred to as his "little one".
William is survived by his wife, Theresa LeVasseur-Berry; son, Jason (Stephanie Hill) Berry of Dundee; daughter, Jacqueline (Justin) Woodward of Monroe; granddaughter, Shelby Woodward; sister, Bernetta Gerhardt of Grosse Isle, two brothers, Terry (Terri) Berry of Erie, and Ira Lynn (Andrea) Berry of Lambertville; aunt, Judy Daniels; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and his pet cats, Fluff, Beebs, Joy, and Fat Jack, the bestest kitty in the world.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Berry, and brother-in-law, Kenneth Gerhardt.
Bacarella Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral and cremation services. A celebration of William's life will be held on May 18, 2024 starting at 2 p.m. at his son Jason's home at 12555 Bigelow Road, Dundee, MI 48131.
