William J. (Herm) Bacarella Sr., age 84, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI passed away, after a short illness on Saturday, May 31, 2008 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born March 14, 1924 in Monroe, MI the son of the late Giovanni B. and Angelina (Poleo) Bacarella. Bill served his country as a Sergeant Unites States Army Air Corps during WWII from November 23, 1942 to November 17, 1945. Bill served in Central Europe, Normandy, France, the Rhineland and Ardennes. For his heroism Bill received the Good conduct Medal, the Victory Medal and the EAME Theatre Service Medal with 6 bronze stars. On January 20, 1950 Bill married Jennie E. Pollzzie at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroe. Bill was employed for 38 years by Monroe Auto Equipment Company retiring in 1987 as a Cost Accountant. He was a member of St. Michael The Archangel Catholic Church where he received a pin for 50 years of service as an usher, and also served on the church credit union committee. Bill was a Life Member of the VFW Post 1138 in Monroe. Bill was awarded his high school diploma in 2002 as a result of his meritorious service in WWII. He enjoyed gardening, landscaping, riding his bike and his cherished grandchildren. Bill is survived by his beloved wife Jennie, his loving children; Wm. J. (Kathleen) Bacarella Jr. of Monroe, Dr. John C. (Barbara) Bacarella DDS of Monroe and Mary Martha Bacarella of Seattle, WA, his cherished grandchildren; Angela, Andrea, Cristina, William. J. III, Joanna, Alexander, and Olivia. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Sam and Joe Bacarella and his sister Mary Bacarella. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home where a Rosary Service will be held at 5:00 PM. On Monday, June 2, 2008 he will lie in state at St. Michael The Archangel Catholic Church from 9:00 AM until Mass of the Resurrection celebrating his life at 10:00 AM. Fr. Stephen Rooney pastor of the church will officiate. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe. Memorial contributions may be given in Bill's name to St. Michael the Archangel Church or School, St. Mary Catholic Central High School, Holiday Camp or to a charity of the donor's choice.
