Watie Cosby, 90, of Monroe, died Friday, March 9, 2007 at 3:15 AM in the Mercy Memorial Hospital where she had been for a week. She had been in poor health for 6 months and seriously ill since entering the hospital. She was born April 14, 1916 in Claiborne County, TN to Timothy and Elizabeth (Lambert) Ellison. On December 15, 1932 she married Maynard Cosby in Claiborne County, they moved to Monroe in 1942 from Tennessee. A homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, canning, and spending time with her family, she was also a member of the Union Street Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include a son Lester (Barbara) Cosby, daughter, Bronitte (Robert) Yoas, and a son-in-law, Carl Davidson, all of Monroe, 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren. Sadly, her husband, May 29, 1986, a son, Thurman, 2 daughters, Arizella Davidson and Onilee Webb, 3 infant daughters, a great grandson, Jeff Miller, and 19 brothers and sisters all preceded her in death. Friends may call Sunday at the Bacarella Funeral Home from 12-8 PM, where services will be held at 11 AM Monday. The Revs. Roy Southerland of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church and Joe Bryant of Union Street Missionary Baptist Church will officiate, and burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery. Memorial gifts in her name may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
