Warner Ira Nathan Groves, age 92 of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Fountain View of Monroe. He had been in declining health for a month.
Born July 5, 1930 in Old Port, Michigan, Warner was the son of the late Alva and Gladys (Wertenberger) Groves. He attended Monroe High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy on September 20, 1948, serving honorably until being discharged on March 13, 1950.
On April 21, 1951, Warner married Judith A. Marx at St. Mary Catholic Church. As a young man, he was employed by France and Vandergrift Greenhouse before beginning a 36 year career with Chrysler Corp. at the Trenton Engine Plant.
Warner was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, UAW Local 372 in Trenton, and the Monroe Area Cloudbusters. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed building and flying remote control airplanes.
Warner is survived by his wife of 71 years, Judy Groves; five children: David (Jan) Groves of Monroe, Gary Groves of Toledo, Linda (Mark) Zeitz of Monroe, Marilyn Butler of Monroe, and Christine (Dale) Bastien of Monroe; 16 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Warner was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Hailey Nicole Gould and a son-in-law, Eugene Butler.
The family will receive visitors during the instate hour at St. Michael Catholic Church on Friday, Oct. 7th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. At 11 a.m., the church pastor, Rev. Fr. Kishore Battu will celebrate Mass of the Resurrection followed by interment at St. Joseph Cemetery. Bacarella Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Memorial donations are encouraged in lieu of flowers. The family suggests supporting St. Michael Catholic Church or the Humane Society of Monroe County.
