Obituary

Virginia Fox Frayer Hammer Picklesimer

Virginia Madeline Fox was born on May 24, 1931 to Fred and Mary (Laney) Fox of Fort Gay, West Virginia. She later moved to Monroe Michigan where she met and married Robert W. Frayer, Sr and together they raised four sons. Virginia is preceded in death by her first husband and two of their sons, Victor Frayer and Paul Frayer.

Virginia married her second husband, Reuben Hammer, and they relocated to Morristown Tennessee where they raised a daughter, Heather Hammer Following the death of her second husband, Virginia married Dewey Picklesimer. After the loss of her third husband, Virginia reconnected with a family childhood friend, Robert Owsley. They have been loving partners for the past twenty years living mostly in Florida before recently returning to Monroe.

Virginia cherished long car rides in the country, dining out and spending time with her friends and family. She loved and missed the Florida sunshine and warmer weather. For many years she worked as a housekeeper and cook for a family farm business in Tennessee. In her younger days, Virginia was a great cook, known for her unforgettable chicken and dumplings, fried chicken, and biscuits with gravy.

Like a fine wine, Virginia grew more wonderful with age and was a joy to spend time with. She enjoyed telling a great story and she loved to share meals with loved ones. If she found a meal she enjoyed, she was known to eat it every day for weeks or months until she tired of it.

Virginia recently spent eighteen days in the hospital bravely battling a severe leg injury. It was a miracle that she survived the accident and she fought tirelessly to recover. She received great medical care from all of the staff at Corewell Trenton and proved to be a most memorable patient. She constantly thanked her medical team and told them she loved them on a regular basis. Even in her final days she was a true lady who brought pleasure to all she met. Virginia passed peacefully at 5:45am on February 9, with her family holding her hands.

Virginia is survived by her loving partner, Robert Owsley, and his family; her sons; Bob (Chris) and Chuck (Julie); as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also survived by daughter, Heather Hammer; brother, Gary Fox; and sister-in-law, Sue Fox.

Private visitation and services were provided by Bacarella Funeral Home.
