Obituary

Virgil F. Parker, 83 years, a resident of Monroe, MI since 1943 passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 2:05 AM in Mercy Memorial Hospital where he had been for the past 10 days. Virgil had been in declining health for the past year. Virgil was born February 12, 1926 in Smithville, WV the son of the late Harry M and Martha L. (Aldridge) Parker. On February 14, 1948 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Monroe he married his beloved wife the former Dorothy Lee Hale. Sadly, she preceded him in death on July 10, 1998 after 50 years of marriage. Virgil proudly served our country as a private in the United States Army during WWII. Virgil worked as a pipefitter for 34 years at Consolidated Paper Company, for 4½ years at Dana Corporation and for 10 years at North Star Steel from which he retired. Virgil was a member of the Monroe I.O.O.F #19 for over 60 years, a member of the Moose Lodge #884, and a member of the F.O.P. Virgil's true passion was bowling. Virgil bowled in various leagues around Monroe and achieved every bowler's goal, a 300 game. Virgil is survived by his loving daughter Jeanne M. Parker of Monroe, a grandson Richard Lee Parker of Monroe, a great granddaughter Jacklynne D. Parker of Monroe, a brother Harry Parker of Brimley, MI and a sister Lucille (James) McKenzie of Monroe. In addition to his wife and parents Virgil was preceded in death by 3 brothers; James, Orville and Charles Parker and 2 sisters; Eva Basile and Mildred Collins. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-8 PM and Tuesday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe, where funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Gary Pickrell and Clarence H. Wood of Victory Temple Church of God will officiate. On Tuesday evening the Monroe I.O.O.F #19 will hold an Odd Fellow Service at 7:00 PM. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
