Violet M. "Vi" Fairchild, 89, of Monroe, passed away at home, under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe, on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, she had been in poor health for about 3 years.
Vi was born November 1, 1925 in Detroit, MI to Henry and Henrietta "Hattie" (Luitje) Stihler. She came to Monroe as a child. On May 18, 1946 she married Francis E. "Ed" Fairchild in Napoleon, OH, and he survives.
She was a member of St. Paul's' United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, and sang in the choir. She also was a Red Cross volunteer for over 30 years, and enjoyed decorating wedding cakes for her children's weddings. She was a very happy, traditional homemaker, who liked to sew, knit, crochet, and especially the time spent with her family camping and traveling. To relax she would read, and will be remembered for the fun she had playing cards.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband; a son, James D. (Karen) Fairchild of Monroe; a daughter, Kathy J. (Bernie) Stone of Erie, MI; two daughter in laws, Prudence K. Fairchild and Carol A. Fairchild, both of Monroe; and six cherished grandchildren, Polly, Phillip, Jason, Raymond, Chad, and Jennifer; as well as 7 great grandchildren.
Sadly, her parents, two sons, Paul R. and Carl F. Fairchild, and two sisters and five brothers all preceded her in death.
Friends are invited to call at the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Road, on Sunday, May 17, from 1-7 PM, where funeral services to commemorate her life will be held at 11 AM Monday. Rev. Evans C. Bentley, pastor at St. Paul's United Methodist Church will officiate, and burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
Memorial gifts in her name may be given to the church or Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
