Veronica "Ronnie" Gelso, 68 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe County, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at her sister Gina's home in Ida, Michigan.
Born March 28, 1957, in Monroe, Ronnie was the daughter of Russel and Jean A. (Mann) Gelso. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Erie and was a 1975 graduate of Mason High School in Erie. She went on to attend Monroe County Community College.
Ronnie was employed at the Monroe County Youth Center from which she retired as Manager of the center after 30 years of service. After retirement she went to work part time at Lowe's Home Improvement Center in Monroe.
Ronnie was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monroe, where she assisted with funerals and weddings.
Ronnie was an excellent cook and baker and of course owned every kitchen gadget ever made. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting blankets for her nieces and nephews, and rescuing and caring for animals. Most of all Ronnie loved time spent with family.
Ronnie is survived by her loving father Russel of Monroe, five siblings: Pat (Linda) Gelso of Brandon, FL, Vickie Gelso of Monroe, Theresa Gelso of Monroe, Gina (Doug) McKeone of Ida, and Russ Gelso of Monroe, eight cherished nieces and nephews, 13 treasured great nieces and nephews and her fur baby Allie.
In addition to her mom, Ronnie was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Gelso, and her fur baby, Si.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 3 – 8 pm at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161, Rosary at 6:00 pm. On Friday, July 25, 2025, she will lie in state at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church beginning at 10:00 am where Mass of the Resurrection celebrating Ronnie's life will begin at 11:00 am. Fr. Michael Anagbogu will be the celebrant. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
