Veronica E. Everson

Veronica E. Everson, 98 years, of Monroe, Michigan passed away Monday, August 17, 2015 at Brookdale Sterling House in Monroe. Born August 14, 1917 in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Victor Ray and Myrtle G. (Briggs) Blakeslee. She attended school in Detroit and was a 1935 graduate of Southwestern High School. On July 22, 1938 Veronica married her beloved husband Hillary J. Everson in Angola, Indiana. Sadly, he preceded her in death on July 6, 2010 after nearly 72 years of marriage. Veronica worked for Michigan Bell and for a short time as a secretary at Monroe Machine Products. Once she and Hillary started a family she became a stay at home mom and a wonderful homemaker for her family. Veronica was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Monroe, a former member of Monroe Golf and Country Club, a founding member of The Townsite Garden Club, a past president of The Monroe Council of Garden Clubs, and a member of the Northwestern Ohio Gladiolus Society. She was an avid fan of the University Of Michigan and she and her husband held football season tickets for many years. Veronica enjoyed needle work and was a talented seamstress. She made baptismal gowns for all of her great grandchildren and wedding dresses and veils for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed making Christmas stockings for family members and spending the winters in Winter Haven Florida. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Veronica is survived by three loving children: Judith J. (John) Gebhardt of Annapolis, MD, Marilyn R. (Mickey) Duffey of Monroe and Michael Louis (Tricia Baber) Everson of Columbus, OH, nine treasured grandchildren and fourteen cherished great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son: John Galloway Everson and a sister: Betty Poorman. On Saturday, August 22, 2015 Veronica’s family will greet friends at the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161, from 12:00 noon until a memorial service celebrating her life at 1:00 PM. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has been held. Her ashes will be interred next to her husband at Maple Grove Cemetery in North Branch, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Heartland Hospice or the River Raisin Center For The Arts.
