Verda Juanita "Nita" Jukuri, 91 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord, on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.
Born September 15, 1933 in Herrin, IL, Nita was the daughter of the late Fred and Nora F. (Newlon) Murray. She was a graduate of the High School of Commerce in Detroit and attended Peterboro Bible College in Ontario, Canada.
On September 20, 1952 Nita married her beloved husband, Rev. Eldred "Al" W. Jukuri at Berea Tabernacle in Detroit. Sadly, Al preceded her in death on June 5, 2019 after 67 years of marriage.
In addition to being a wonderful homemaker, Nita also worked for La-Z-Boy, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Gospel Publishing House, and at Hudson's Department Store in Detroit.
A woman of great faith, Nita was a long-time member of Stewart Road Church of God where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, played the piano and organ, and was a member of Women United. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother. She enjoyed traveling and spending time near the ocean, ice cream, attending various parties, and watching sporting events, especially the Detroit Tigers and the Michigan Wolverines. She even worked at the concession stand for Michigan Football games. Nothing brought Nita more joy than time spent with friends and family, particularly her grandchildren.
Nita is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, Daniel W. and Gloria Jukuri of Monroe, six cherished grandchildren: Amanda (Bill), Melinda, Joseph, Nicholas (Holly), Anthony (Melissa), and Brandon (Bianca), nine treasured great grandchildren, and four siblings: Norman (Vera) Murray, Carol Colett, Paul (Penny) Murray, and Gordon Murray.
In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Nita was preceded in death by two sons: David E. and Steven M. Jukuri, and three brothers: Robert, James, and Gary Murray.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3 – 7 pm at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161. On Thursday, March 6, 2025, she will lie in state at Stewart Road Church of God beginning at 10:00 follow by funeral services celebrating Nita's life at 11:00 am. Rev. Mark Ingram, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
