V. Arlene Douglas

V. Arlene Douglas, 96, of Monroe, passed away Monday, November 14, 2016 at the Wellspring Lutheran Home, Monroe. Arlene was born November 17, 1919 in Litchfield, IL to Ralph and Bessie (Kabel) Green. She was a graduate of Litchfield High School, and then graduated from the University of Illinois, receiving a B.A. in Sociology, with a Music Minor. On July 8, 1944 she married Dr. Dale W. (Doug) Douglas at the Central Christian Church in Gary, Indiana. They moved to Monroe in 1955 from Dwight, Illinois. Sadly, he preceded her in death on August 21, 1996. She shared her piano skills in many ways, serving as the organist at Christ Lutheran Church for 5 years, and then as the organist/assistant organist at First Presbyterian Church for over 30 years. She served as a substitute organist at many churches, of all faiths, in the Monroe area for many years. She accompanied many soloists, choirs, and in the theater. Her memberships included, Friends in Council, Friends of Sawyer House, Michigan Cancer Society, American Medical Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, AAUW, Fine Arts Council, Monroe Golf and Country Club, the American Guild of Organists, and the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority at the University of Illinois. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, and served as an elder there. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Robert (Nancy) Douglas of Monroe, J. Brad (Mary) Douglas of South Lyon, D. Stephen (Carol) Douglas of Arlington Heights, IL, and Jane Kwilecki of Ormond Beach, FL, grandchildren, Robert S. (Nicole) Douglas, Kari (Andrew) Marchese, Joe (Alisha) Irwin, Shawn Irwin, Michelle, Irwin, Ryan Irwin, Bobby Douglas, Sarah Jane Kwilecki; great grandchildren, Madeline, Emma, Lucie, Abbey, Ellie, Henry, and Liam. As well as her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Robert and Ralph Green. Friends are invited to call on Friday, November 18, at the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 South Telegraph Road, from 3-8 PM. A private burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle, and then the family will greet friends from 1 PM Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, where a service to honor her life will be held at 2 PM. Rev. Annemarie S. Kidder, pastor of the church will officiate. For those who wish to make a memorial donation in her name, the First Presbyterian Church, or the Wellspring Lutheran Home, for continuing education for Nurses or CNAs is suggested.
