Obituary

Thelma Mae Hamilton, 95 years, of Newport, MI passed away, Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Medilodge of Monroe where she was under the wonderful and caring hands of the Medilodge Staff, Dr. Joseph Hunt and Heartland Hospice. Thelma had been in Medilodge and in declining health since January. Thelma was born April 13, 1914 in Speedwell, TN the daughter of the late Bige and Maggie (Lyke) Turner. It was in Monroe where she met her beloved husband Jarvis L. Hamilton. The couple married on October 14, 1938 in Toledo, OH. Sadly, Jarvis preceded her in death on September 22, 1987. Thelma was employed as a box folder and taper at the Consolidated Paper Company's North Side Plant for 40 years, retiring in July of 1975. Thelma was a member of Flat Hollow Methodist Church in Speedwell, TN and attended Bethany Baptist Church in Monroe. Thelma enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, crocheting and sewing. Most of all Thelma enjoyed spending time with her family. Thelma is survived by her loving son and daughter in law Joe M. (Andrea) Hamilton of Newport, 4 cherished grandchildren; Pamela (Mark) Bowen, Brian (Jeri) Hamilton, MSGT Charles (Kim) Hamilton and Amanda Baldwin, 9 treasured great grandchildren a sister Etta Kelly of Monroe and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Thelma was preceded in death by 3 sisters; Lizzie Monday, Ludie Monday and Bonnie Harris, and 3 brothers; Casper, Austin, and Kernie Turner. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe, where funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 1:00 PM. The Rev. Rex Jones Jr. pastor of Bethany Baptist Church will officiate. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Baptist Church Building Fund, Airport Athletic Boosters, Medilodge of Monroe or Heartland Hospice.
