Terry Hugh Powell, age 78 of Monroe, passed away Monday, February 13, 2023 at Embassy of Swanton, Swanton, Ohio.
Born March 3, 1944 in Los Angeles, California, Terry was the son of the late Hugh and Estelle (Chiodo) Powell. He graduated from Morningside High School in Inglewood, California and married the love of his life, JoAn H. Huber of Monroe on September 28, 2002 at the Treasure Island Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their journey together was amazing. It all began with the "Love Boat" and a Woof!
He had a big personality and a big heart. His laughter filled the room, he lived life to the fullest. He loved his family, friends, and his pets, with all his heart. Despite his size, he was the tallest man his family ever knew. He had a personality that was larger than life and could tell a story like no other. He had such a charismatic way of looking at you, smiling at you with only his eyes and you felt his love and devotion. His raw and unapologetic humor was unique and often without a filter but still part of his charm. He was an artist through and through, whether it be with his own hand on a brush, an eye for talent, an incredible ear for music or creating in the kitchen. If you ever rode in a car with him, you knew there wasn't a dashboard or a sun visor that he couldn't play. Terry was the life of the party and touched the lives of so many. He was a funny, kind and generous father. He could make anyone laugh and would give you his opinion whether you asked for it or not. He will be deeply missed by all and will live on in the cherished memories of his family! "The beauty on duty…The man, the myth, the legend"…that's Terry!
Terry is survived by his wife JoAn Powell of Monroe, Michigan; two daughters, Shelley Powell of Downey, California and J.J. Powell of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; three grandchildren, Bianca (David) Ostendi, Dayton Powell, and Aidan Lynch; and great-grandchild, Camille Ostendi.
In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by a sister, Joanne Adams and her husband, Jerry.
