Teresa J. Vandecaveye, age 92 of Monroe, passed away Monday, April 29, 2024 in her home.
Born April 11, 1932 in Berkey, OH, Teresa was the daughter of the late Leo and Margaret (Zenk) Bettinger. She graduated from Sylvania Burnam High School in 1950 and attended the Toledo Academy of Beauty to be a hairdresser. On June 26, 1954, she married Andrew R. Vandecaveye at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Berkey. Together they raised four children. He preceded Teresa in death on March 8, 2009.
Teresa was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church where she volunteered her time in various capacities. She was employed by Monroe Public Schools, working as a teacher's aide for many years at Riverside Elementary School.
Teresa always enjoyed the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her personal time, she liked watching sports, crocheting, knitting, sewing, and gardening.
Teresa is survived by her children, Ellen Graves of Monroe, Andy (Lisa) Vandecaveye of Sarasota, FL, Tom (Debbie) Vandecaveye of Ida, and John Vandecaveye of Rockwood; eight grandchildren: Stacie (Randy) Priester, Kristine (Chris) Murray, Gregory (Renee) Masserant, Kurt (Lynzee) Vandecaveye, Kyle (Megan) Vandecaveye, Anna (Rob) Mengel, Connor Vandecaveye, and Alyssa Vandecaveye; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Teresa was preceded in death by four brothers; four sisters; son-in-law, Don Graves; grandson, Corey Vandecaveye; and great-granddaughter, Avery Vandecaveye.
Family and friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May7th at Bacarella Funeral Home where the Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Teresa will lie in state Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. by the church pastor, Rev. Fr. David Burgard followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary Catholic Central High School Scholarship Fund.
