Steven Barton

Steven M. Barton, 59 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 22, 2012 in Toledo, OH. Born February 27, 1953 in Monroe, Steve was the son of the late Kenneth and Eleanor (Rowe) Barton. Steve was a 1971 graduate of Monroe High School and went on to further his education at Monroe County Community College. On April 29, 1972, Steve married his beloved wife the former Lisa Elizabeth Myers at North Monroe Street Church of God. The Rev. Fred Cornelius performed the ceremony. Steve was employed by Ford Motor Company as a tool and die maker at the Woodhaven Stamping Plant for 32 ½ years. Steve retired in 2002. Steve also owned and operated, along with his family, S&L Mobil Music, a DJ company in Monroe for many years. Steve played at Steve’s Tavern and Mugsy’s along with many other establishments in Monroe and the surrounding area. He also entertained at weddings and other events. Steve attended North Monroe Street Church of God where for a time he ran the sound system. Steve enjoyed singing and entertaining people, golfing, bowling, his Play Station, darts, ping pong and playing Texas Holdem Poker with his family and friends, where he enjoyed it when he won and got a little upset when he lost. Steve was also a huge University of Michigan Fan. More than anything Steve was all about his family and friends. Steve’s home was always open to anyone who needed anything at anytime. Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Lisa, two adoring children: Steven M. (Theresa) Barton II and Sara J. Barton both of Monroe, nine cherished grandchildren: Isaiah, Kaleigh, Steven III, Samantha, Brooklyn, Jazmine, Tiffany, Andre’, and Joseph, a brother and best friend: Kenneth L. (Amy) Barton, Jr. of Monroe, four sisters: Susan M. (David) Ellison of Monroe, Kathy (Dennis) Baehr of Newport, Marlene (John) Lykins of Monroe, and Laura Bell of Monroe, Nathan Barton of Monroe, who was like a brother to him and Kevin Russeau of Monroe whom he loved like a his own son. The family would like to thank Daniel Barton, Steve’s nephew, whom he thought of as his son, for all his loving care. In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his loving son Samuel G. Barton on December 28, 2001, and a sister LaDonna Mosher. Visitation will be held on Friday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph in Monroe where funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Rick Massingill and Rev. Fed Cornelius will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dundee, MI. Memorial contributions are suggested to Steve’s family.
