Shirley May Wilder, 92 of Monroe, passed away peacefully at Hampton Manor of Dundee.
She was the daughter of Emmons and Della (Cousino) Duvall who preceded her passing. In 1951, she married Paul L. Wilder, who passed away in 2003 after 51 years of marriage.
Shirley was a homemaker until her children were in high school. She returned to work, starting at Monroe Public Schools working with records retention. She later became a volunteer patient transporter at Mercy-Memorial Hospital in the Radiology Department and was then hired to work in the same department. She retired from the hospital in 1992.
Shirley was known as "Mom" to any friend who came to the house and was a gracious hostess. A lot of spaghetti and roast beef dinners were served around her table, and it was always, always followed by dessert. She and Paul liked traveling together, but especially enjoyed dancing. If the music was playing, they would be on the dance floor.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Paula (Steven) Ashley of Monroe, 5 grandchildren: James (Lisa) Hayes, Andrea (Nate) Burkhart, Paul Lee (Savannah) Wilder, Adam (Cathi) Pulver, and Malarie Wilder; and 11 great-grandchildren: Amelia, AJ, and Addy Hayes; Quinn, Sawyer, and Neve Burkhart; Callie, Claire, and Caitlyn Wilder; and Donovan and Leeanna Richardson.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded by a daughter, Debby, and a son, James; brothers, Wilbur (Bud), Emmons (Junior), James (Jack), and a sister, Arletta Volpi.
Arrangements have been made by Bacarella Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Prayers and a service will be held at 6:00 p.m. There will be a private burial at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle, MI.
