Shirley C. Risden, 73 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, Michigan, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2015 in her home.
Born December 16, 1941 in Monroe, Shirley was the daughter of the late Walter and Isabell (Herbst) Kilgus. Shirley was a graduate of Ida High School and attended business college.
On June 29, 1963 she married her beloved husband Jimmie J. Risden in Monroe. Sadly, he preceded her in death on July 8, 2010 after 46 years of marriage.
Shirley was employed by Monroe Public Schools as a bus driver and worked as motor route carrier for the Monroe Evening News for many years. She was retired from both.
Shirley attended the First Wesleyan Church in Monroe and enjoyed camping, trips to the casino, crocheting, traveling, reading and spending time on her computer. Most of all she enjoyed time spent with family.
Shirley is survived by two loving daughters: Robin L. Reagan and Roxan L. Rodriguez both of Monroe, two cherished grandchildren: Matthew (Amanda) Rodriguez and Lucas (his fiancée Jessica Duncan) Rodriguez both of Monroe and two treasured great grandchildren: Matthew Rodriguez, II and Gabriella Rodriguez.
In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a son: David Risden, a son-in-law: Antonio Rodriguez, a sister-in-law: Mary Byrd and two brothers-in-law: Pitney D. and Jessie Risden.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
In keeping with Shirley's wishes all visitation, funeral services and burial at Rath Cemetery will be private. The Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI, 48161 is assisting her family with funeral arrangements.
