Shirley J. Gerweck, 78 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI passed away on Friday, December 24, 2010 at Mercy Memorial Hospital.
Shirley was born August 2, 1932 in Monroe, MI the daughter of the late Raymond F. and Amy E. (Twitty) Ellerman. Shirley attended Monroe Public Schools and was a 1950 graduate of Monroe High School.
On August 25, 1951 in Monroe, MI Shirley married the love of her life James S. Gerweck. Sadly, James passed away earlier this month on December 8, 2010. Shirley and Jim were married for 59 years and now they are together again.
Shirley and Jim owned and operated Gerweck's Homespun Fabrics in Monroe for 17 years from which they retired in 2000. Shirley enjoyed sewing, collecting teddy bears and porcelain dolls. Most of all Shirley enjoyed her family.
Shirley is survived by 4 loving children; Terry L. (Mary) Gerweck of Monroe, Keith R. (Mary) Gerweck of Monroe, Louise K. (Leo) Malvitz of Carleton, MI and Amy S. (Allen) Dean of Ida, MI, 7 cherished grandchildren; Kira, Aubree, Sarah, Matthew, Laura, James, and Michelle.
In addition to her parents and husband Shirley was preceded in death by a son Martin Craig Gerweck.
In keeping with Shirley's wishes there will be no visitation or services. The Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe is assisting with funeral arrangements.
