Shirley Jean Bruce, age 88, of Monroe, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Brookdale Monroe.
Shirley was born October 21, 1935 in Speedwell, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Otho and Sarah (Leach) Bruce.
She was a 1954 graduate of Monroe High School. After graduation she went on to work for Monroe Public Schools as a payroll specialist for 39 years, retiring in 1995.
Shirley enjoyed gardening, doing embroidery, she loved her family and will be dearly missed by those who knew her. Her family will especially miss her specialty dishes: Swiss steak, devil eggs and cream pies.
She is survived by her sister, Carolyn Hoyt of Carleton, three nieces and nephews, Kenneth (Angela) Hoyt of Marion, KS, Mark Andreoli of Monroe and Karen Newby of Monroe; great nieces and nephew, Christian Newby, Katie Hoyt and Anna (Phil) Ashcroft.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law, Kenneth Hoyt and niece, Lin Andreoli.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with Rev. Scott Slater, Family Pastor of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
