Shirley A. Bacome, age 75 of Monroe, passed away Monday, June 5, 2023 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. She had been in poor health for several years.
Born March 15, 1948 in Monroe, Shirley was the daughter of the late Jerry and Zelberta (Stump) Daniels. She graduated from Airport High School. She had a long career with Ford Motor Company in Monroe as a welder. She retired in 1997 after 27 years.
Though her compassion ran deep for all animals and wildlife, her heart belonged to dogs. She faithfully supported local animal shelters. Long before mobility issues and illness bingo was the entertainment of choice.
It was over 30 years ago that she met the final love of her life and married Richard I. Bacome. Sadly, he passed away January 13, 2023.
Shirley is survived by four children, Pam Bruns of Crete, IL, Kelly Tipton of New Boston, MI, Bobbie Jo DiCarlo of Las Vegas, NV, Lenny Wilkens of Belleville, MI; 3 siblings, Jean Gish, John Daniels, and Kenny (Kim) Daniels, all of Monroe; grandchildren: Ashley (Tyler) Fresso, Sean (Nikki) Bruns, Miah Bruns, Joshua (Kayla) Tipton, Matthew (Janelle) Tipton, Vito DiCarlo, Aaron DiCarlo, Jon Hamilton, Alyssa Hamilton, Dante Hamilton, Corey Wilkens, Alissa Bashaw, and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Isom and Jerry Daniels.
Family and friends may visit from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 8th at Bacarella Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Rev. Roy Southerland will officiate followed by interment at Roselawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial donations go to support the Humane Society of Monroe County.
