Sharon Rose Sweeney, age 78 of LaSalle, passed away at 2:53 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2022 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.
Sharon was born December 29, 1943 in Monroe. She was the daughter of Kenneth and Vera (Towler) Burkett. She married Carl S. Sweeney June 26, 1965.
She was a 1962 graduate of Monroe High School.
Sharon was a lifelong member of Calvary United Methodist Church, where she was a very active member. She was a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, and served on numerous committees through the years. After the church closed its doors in November of 2021, she found a new church home at St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
She loved to care for her family, helping both her husband and her daughter in their respective businesses through the years. She enjoyed gardening, and her grandsons were the lights of her life. She loved watching them perform with the University of Michigan Marching Band.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Carl S. Sweeney; daughter, Cheryl (Craig Prater) Sweeney of LaSalle; grandsons, Grant Prater and Drew Prater, and her additional daughter, Kimberly (George) Meyers of Monroe.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ralph Burkett.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2022 at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. Rev. Melodye Surgeon VanOudheusden, pastor of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, will officiate. Private interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
