Obituary

Sergeant Christopher P. Messer United States Army, age 28 was killed in action on December 27, 2006 while serving our country on his second tour of duty in Iraq. Christopher was born November 17, 1978 in Wyandotte, MI. the son of Ronald and Michele (Liparoto) Messer. Christopher married his beloved wife Amie L. Miller on December 27, 2003 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Ida, MI. Christopher attended Ida Public Schools and graduated from Dundee Alternative High School. Christopher enjoyed fishing and camping. Sgt. Messer was an infantryman assigned to Company D, 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment based in Fort Drum, N.Y. Enlisting in the Army in February of 2003, he completed basic and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Ga. In October of 2003, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment at Ledward Barracks in Germany. In 2005, he was reassigned to Fort Drum in New York. His military awards include the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal with 'V' device, Valorous Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge and the Driver Badge. Christopher is survived by his beloved wife Amie and his cherished daughter Skyle A Messer at home. His father Ron Messer of Sarasota, FL, his mother Michele Vore of Toledo, OH and his step father Doug Vore of Ida, MI. A brother Jeremy G. (Miyuki) Messer of Indianapolis, IN. and 3 sisters; Shawna Vore of Dundee, MI, Rachel (Bill) Peters of Boardman, OH and Sybil (George) Lesko of Boardman, OH. Visitation for Christopher will be held Saturday from 5-8 PM and Sunday from 1-8 PM where the VFW Post 1138 will conduct a military service a 3:00 PM Sunday in the Bacarella Funeral Home where funeral services celebrating and honoring his life will be Monday, January 8, 2007 at 1:00 PM. The Rev. Harold Raymond pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Ida will officiate. Interment will follow at Pleasantview Cemetery in Petersburg, MI with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christopher P. Messer Memorial Fund at Monroe Bank & Trust.
