Savo Knezevich, age 86 of Monroe, passed away Friday, January 17, 2025 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.
Born January 27, 1938 in Monroe, Savo was the son of the late Milivoj "Mike" and Mary (Utczai) Knezevich. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1956 and served his country in the U.S. Army from August 8, 1960 until being honorably discharged on July 25, 1963. During that time, Savo was stationed at the former Newport Nike Missile Base, Fort Hood in Texas where he received awards for marksmanship and sharpshooting, and S. Korea.
After being discharged, Savo returned to Monroe and resumed his previous employment at the Ford Stamping Plant. On November 1, 1959, he married Mary Kovenich at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Monroe. Together they raised three children. In 1991 Savo retired from Ford Motor Company after 33 years.
A life member of Monroe VFW Post 1138, Savo enjoyed farming his property, gardening, traveling with his wife in their motor home, visiting casinos, and especially spending time with his family.
Savo is survived by Mary, his wife of 65 years; daughter, Kathy (Mike) Bales of Gig Harbor, WA; son Steven (Lori) Knezevich of St. Clair Shores, MI; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Savo was preceded in death by a daughter, Rose Marie Nunn; three brothers, Bosko, Yaddy, and Pio "Paul" Knezevich; six sisters, Velinka Tomich, Zorka Conner, Milka "Mildred" Holtz, Louise Ford, Anka "Annie" Borjanovic, and Nada Husband.
Bacarella Funeral Home is assisting the family with cremation arrangements in abidance with Savo's wishes. A Celebration of Life gathering will be scheduled at a later date.
