Sandra L. Vanisacker, age 81, of Monroe, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Monroe Springs Rehab and Nursing Center.
Sandra was born April 5, 1945 in Monroe, she was the daughter of Dorrell L. and Shirley J. (St. Bernard) Brown, Jr. She married George C. Vanisacker August 29, 1963 at St. Mary Church Monroe; sadly he preceded her in death July 8, 1989.
Sandy attended St. Mary Grade School, was a 1963 graduate of St. Mary Academy, obtained her nursing degree from Monroe County Community College and also attended University of Toledo.
She was a member of St. Michael Church where she was a cantor and sang in the choir for 35 years.
Sandy was a registered nurse for various hospitals and insurance companies before her retirement March 28, 2002. She was awarded Hero of the Year for saving a life at Thorne Hills Golf Course in Carleton, with her fast thinking and medical knowledge she was able to provide care before the ambulance arrived.
She was a lifetime member of the Monroe Art League and was involved with the River Raisin National Battlefield Park.
She is survived by three children, David S. Vanisacker of Scottsdale, AZ, Corinne A. Borchardt of Monroe and Brian M. (Lisa) Vanisacker of Monroe; brother, Gary L. (Deborah) Brown of Sun Lakes, AZ; three grandchildren, Nicholas, Michael and Mason and good friend, Nancy Adams.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Alexandra Vanisacker and daughter-in-law, Dana Vanisacker.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 29, 2026 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. She will lie instate at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Church with Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe.
