Sally Smith, age 92, of Monroe, MI, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2007 at 12:49 PM at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio facility in Toledo, OH where she had been since Saturday, She had been in poor health for 2 months. Sally was born June 26, 1915 in LaFollette, TN, the daughter of the late Bethel and Laura (Goins) McCulley. On May 17, 1936 in Williamsburg, KY Sally married Fred R. Smith. Sadly he preceded her in death on February 4, 1985. A homemaker, Sally was a member of the Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center where she participated in the jail ministry program for 20 years. Sally also was a volunteer for the Michigan Cancer Foundation, Karmanos Cancer Institute and most recently with the Monroe Cancer Connection where she served for a combined 20 years of selfless giving. Sally is survived by her loving daughter Kathy P. Whited of Monroe, MI, 3 cherished grandchildren; Lisa (Greg) Martin, Linda (Kevin) Dewilde, and Chuck Whited all of Monroe, MI and 3 cherished great grandchildren; Elizabeth and Marisa Martin and Jarrad Whited and her sister Margaret Zgurich of Temperance. In addition to her husband and parents, Sally was preceded in death by her son in law Charles Whited and 6 sisters. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 12-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home. On Monday, November 26, 2007 she will lie in state at Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating her life at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Sam Luke pastor of the church will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
