Ruth I. Zurschmit, 93, of Lansing since 2003, formerly of Monroe, died Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at Ingham Region Assisted Living, Lansing, where she had lived for 3 years. She had been seriously ill since last October. She was born March 28, 1914 in Akron, OH to George E. and Bessie L. (Faulk) Shaklee. A 1932 graduate of South High School, Akron, OH she married Earl L. Zurschmit on December 9, 1933 in Wheeling, WV. They came to Monroe in 1947. Sadly, he preceded her in death August 10, 1987. . A homemaker, she was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, a life Member and Past Matron of O.E.S. #226, had served as Mother advisor for Rainbow, enjoyed flower and rose gardening, and spending her winters in Clearwater, FL. Three daughters, Harriet A. Welch of Monroe, Carolyn E. Serbin of Lansing, and Jean M. (David) Beeler of Monroe and Lupton, MI, 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and a great great grandson survive her. She was also preceded in death by her son, James, grandson, Jason D. Beeler, great granddaughter, Stephanie Emert, twin great great granddaughters, Brooklyn and Brittany Gramlich, and son-in-laws, Harry Paul Welch and Richard Serbin. Visitation will be held at the Bacarella Funeral Home on Sunday from 1-8 PM, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Monday. Her grandson, Pastor Michael Beeler of Faith Gospel Tabernacle Church, Bad Axe, MI and Rev. Evans C. Bentley of St. Paul's United Methodist Church will officiate with burial following at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
