Obituary

Ruth Abston Cole Turner, 81 years, a resident of Monroe, Michigan since 1953, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the home of her son and daughter in law, Harvey and Debbie Cole.
Born July 24, 1933 in Cottondale, Alabama, Ruth was the daughter of the late Henry N. and Daisy (Lee) Abston.
On March 16, 1968, Ruth married her beloved husband Paul E. Turner, Sr. in Monroe. Sadly, he preceded her in death on September 22, 2002 after 34 years of marriage.
Ruth moved to Monroe in 1953 from Middlesboro, Kentucky. She worked as a waitress for the Park Hotel for 5 years, Jimmy's Rathskellar for 10 years and Tres and Kens for 5 years. She also worked at Ohio Plate Glass for 9 years. She retired in 1977.
After retirement Ruth and Paul decided a warmer climate would be a nice way to spend their time together so they moved to Plant City, Florida. In 2001 they moved back to Monroe. Ruth was a life member of the VFW Post 3925 in Erie, Michigan. She enjoyed flower gardening and time spent with family and friends.
Ruth is survived by three loving sons: William P. Cole, Jr. of Newport, MI, Harvey N. (Debbie) Cole of Monroe, MI, Marvin E. Cole of Newport, MI, seven cherished grandchildren and six treasured great grandchildren, and a brother David Abston of Noble LA.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by a son: Dorsey Cole a brother: Jasper and four sisters: Willie Mae Collier, Lucille Dill, Elizabeth Tuttle, and Mary Wright.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-7 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI 48161 where funeral services celebrating Ruth's life will be held on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Greg Grotbeck, associate Chaplain of Promedica Monroe Regional Hospital, will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
