Ruth E. Richardson, 67 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 12, 2011.
Born February 21, 1943 in Monroe, Ruth was the daughter of the late Jacob and Jonnie Mae (Farmer) Watkins. Ruth was educated at Lincoln Elementary School and was a 1961 graduate of Monroe High School.
On June 1, 1968 in Monroe, Ruth married Robert L. "Chief" Richardson. Sadly he preceded her in death on February 19, 2010.
Ruth was employed as a lunch aid at Lincoln Elementary School from 1986 until her retirement in 2008. Prior to her employment at Lincoln Elementary she worked as a medical biller for University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.
Ruth was a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church in Monroe where she was a Willing Worker and ran the Day Care program for the church's Sunday School.
Ruth was also a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles, reading, crocheting, and shopping. She was a 4-H Good Time Group Leader and always loved accompanying her children on school field trips. Most of all Ruth was an incredible mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Ruth leaves to cherish her memory 3 loving children; Robert A. Richardson, Regina R. Richardson and Renee' J. Richardson all of Monroe, 11 cherished grandchildren and 2 treasured great grandchildren, 2 brothers; Ronald E. (Denise) Watkins and Charles R. (Dannielle) Watkins, both of Monroe, 1 sister; Myrna J. Watkins of Monroe, and 1 sister in law Earnestine Watkins also of Monroe.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by a brother Robert "Bobby" L. Watkins.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2011 in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe from 10:00 am until funeral services celebrating her life at 11:00 am. Ruth's nephew, Rev. Robert J. Watkins will officiate. Interment will follow at Historic Woodland Cemetery in Monroe.
