Obituary

Ruth Iona (Thompson) Duvall, age 87, of Monroe, MI passed away, Thursday, February 26, 2009 at The Lutheran Home in Monroe, MI where she had been for the past 3 years. Ruth was born March 18, 1921 in Cambridge, OH the daughter of the late John and Flossie (Hoskins) Thompson. In the late 1930's Ruth along with her family moved to Monroe. Ruth was a 1939 Graduate of Monroe High School. On November 21, 1940 in Monroe Ruth married her beloved husband Sherwood A. "Woody" Duvall. Sadly he preceded in death on May 11, 2006 after 65 years of marriage. A homemaker, Ruth along with her husband, sister Maxine and brother in law also owned and operated a watermelon farm and store in Yuma, AZ in 1946-47. Ruth and Woody also ran a boarding house in the early 1950's and had an antique business in the 1980's. In the late 1950's and early 60's Ruth worked for Stadelman's in Monroe. Ruth was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Ruth enjoyed her life, her family and especially being with the little ones. She also enjoyed playing board games, cards and bingo. Ruth is survived by 3 loving children; Sharon (Dean) Bathgate, Kenneth (Joy) Duvall, and Jeffrey (Jan) Duvall all of Monroe, 9 treasured grandchildren; Heather (Jim) Barrett, Heidi (Steve) Stewart, Heath (Shelli) Bathgate, Noelle (Eric) Litra, Kym (Randy) Sieler, Keith (Tracy) Duvall, Jeff (Ladeana) Duvall, Jenny (Andy) Milliere, and Jill Duvall, and 18 cherished great grandchildren, and 2 brothers; William H. (Eadie) Thompson of Monroe and George (Marie) Thompson of TN. In addition to her husband and parents Ruth was preceded in death by 3 sisters; Inez Coutcher, Maxine Conroy and Hilda Sancraint and 1 brother Don Thompson. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2009 in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe from 11:00 AM until funeral services celebrating her life at 1:00 PM. The Rev. John Schinkel, Chaplain of the Lutheran Home will officiate. Memorial contributions may be given to The Lutheran Home of Heartland Hospice.
