Obituary

Roy left this world leaving a legacy of love and laughter. He will be remembered for his magnetic personality and his sense of humor. He never met a stranger, treating everyone like an old friend

Roy grew up in Monroe on his aunt and uncle’s farm. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1954, leaving for the Army that same year. He served two years in the Korean war. He graduated from Barber School but chose to never work at it professionally. He was employed by Acoustics Manufacturing from 1957 until they closed in 1976. He then went on to work at Chrysler Trenton Engine Plant as a millwright until he retired in 1996. He told so many stories about how much fun he had, we often wondered how many engines were actually built.

Roy married Betty Sharp in 1962 and had one daughter. He enjoyed snowmobiling up north and boating on Lake Norris in Tennessee. He loved to just drive around and reminisce about his younger years, often saying “Are we going for a ride?”. He was an avid TV watcher, old westerns being his favorite.

On May 23, 2026, Roy Joseph Ooley, age 93, passed away at Saint Therese IHM Senior Living with his daughter by his side. He was a resident of the memory care unit for the past two years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine (Swope) and John Green; brothers, Ernest and John Green Jr.; and his wife of 51 years, Betty.

He left to cherish his memory his daughter and son in law, Beth and Eric Glenn; his grandson Cole; and all the friends he made at IHM.

His family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for their compassion and care. A very special thank you to the staff of the IHM Memory Care Unit where he was cared for, loved, and affectionately known as “Grandpa”.

Graveside services will be held for Roy on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery, 909 North Monroe Street, Monroe. Military Honors will be performed by VFW Post 1138, Monroe and Rev. Joel Luallen, chaplain for Heartland Hospice will officiate.

Memorial contributions to honor Roy are suggested to Penrickton Center for Blind Children, 26530 Eureka Rd. Taylor MI 48180.
