Obituary

Roxanna Emerson, age 65, of Monroe, MI, a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, passed away Monday, November 2, 2009 in the Emergency Room at Mercy Memorial Hospital. Roxanna had been in declining health for the past 2 months. Born March 7, 1944 in Detroit, MI Roxanna was the daughter of the late Melvin and Mary (Stennett) Guldenstein. In May of 1963 in Oak Park, MI Roxanna married Richard L. Szerszen. She then married Russell Emerson on May 10, 1991 in Toledo, OH. Sadly, Russell preceded her in death on August 29, 1998. Roxanna worked at various jobs in the Monroe area until she found her calling as a home health care nurses aid. This job was a perfect fit for her kind and caring manner. She retired in 1997. Roxanna was a member of Rapha Christian Center in Erie, MI where she taught Sunday School, she also attended the Sunday Church Group at Café Classics in Monroe. Roxanna was a member the Detroit Beach Association and a past board member, a member of Frenchtown Senior Citizens and a member of the VFW Donald M. Squire Post #3943 Ladies Auxiliary in Newport where she volunteered extensively, she also volunteered for Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe. Roxanne was a very loving and caring person and will be missed by all who new her. Roxanne is survived by 3 loving children whom she loved very much; Richard M. Szerszen of Monroe, April C. (Michael) Edmondson and Kelly A. (Duane) Lucio both of Carleton. 4 cherished and treasured grandchildren; Tabatha, Michael II, Brienne, and Megan, her 1st husband whom she made her home with Richard, 1 brother Paul (Paulette) Gleason of Sterling Heights, MI 3 sisters; Betty (Frank) Salcicciol of Gladwin, MI, Karen (Ross) Siegler of St. Petersburg, FL, and Juanita (Chuck) Smith of Jackson, MI. In addition to her parents and 2nd husband Roxanna was preceded in death by 2 brothers Jack and Timothy Guldenstein. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd in Monroe, where funeral services celebrating Roxanna's life will be held on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 11:00 AM. The Rapha Christian Center Ministry Team along with the Rev. William Thomas will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Red Cross.
