Obituary

Rosemary "Rosie" Brooks, age 76, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2007 at 1:50 PM in Mercy Memorial Hospital where she had been since becoming ill on Sunday. Rosie, as she was commonly known, was born February 1, 1931 in Monroe, MI the daughter of the late Archie L. and Mima (Bailey) Brooks. While in grade school Rosie played and pitched fast pitch softball for St. Charles Borromeo Centaurs in the Monroe CYO league. Rosie went on to graduate from Monroe High School in 1950. Rosie worked as a secretary for Union Camp for 30 years. Rosie was a devoted member of the First Wesleyan Church in Monroe where she was the custodian, served on the Missionary Society, and served on the Church Board as the Secretary and Assistant Treasurer. Rosie was also involved in the Southeast Michigan Evangelical Association. Rosie enjoyed her daily walks at the mall and was an avid sports fan. Rosie is survived by her beloved sister Anne Hayes of Monroe, MI, and her beloved brothers; Ben Brooks of Sarasota, FL, Hugh (Louise) Brooks of Sarasota, FL, Ken Brooks of Newport, MI, Robert (Margaret) Brooks of Monroe, MI and Ron (Beverly) Brooks of Owosso, MI. and 16 cherished nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Rosie was preceded in death by her brother James "Jay" Brooks, a brother in law Leo Hayes and 2 sisters in law Betty and Helen Brooks. Visitation for Rosie will be held on Sunday from 2-9 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home 1201 S. Telegraph Rd, Monroe, MI. On Monday, August 27, 2007 she will lie in state at the First Wesleyan Church, 426 Jerome Street in Monroe, MI from 1:00 PM until funeral services celebrating her life at 2:00 PM. The pastor of the church the Rev. Jeffrey Luttrell will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Wesleyan Church.
