Obituary

Rollin Levant Webb, age 90 of Newport, MI, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, March 31, 2025. Born August 16, 1934 in Monroe, Rollin was the son of the late Karl and Grace (Huffman) Webb.

He graduated from Monroe High School in 1952 and earned a degree in agriculture, specializing in poultry, from Michigan State University. On June 18, 1955, Rollin married Mary K. Cramer at Trinity Lutheran Church. Together they raised their four sons on the family farm in Newport.

A lifelong farmer, he raised cash crops and livestock. He was elected Monroe County Drain Commissioner for three consecutive terms, serving a total of 12 years before retiring in 2006. His involvement with the Monroe County Fair Board spanned 57 years, including time as Swine Superintendent. Rollin was also a member of the Monroe County Farm Bureau, Blissfield Growers, and Michigan Soybean Associations, a reflection of his deep commitment to agriculture and community.

Volunteering became a way of life early on. At 25, Rollin joined the Monroe County Fair Board in 1959 and went on to become its longest-serving member, retiring after 57 years. He held every executive office within the board, including president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. He was general superintendent of hogs even before joining the board, taking on the role from his father, Karl. In the late 1970s, as he focused on raising up to 1,000 market hogs a year, he stepped down from the superintendent role and became assistant fair manager. In his later years, he stayed involved by helping at the Farm Bureau concession, often grilling pork burgers outside. In recognition of his service, the Monroe County Fair Board honored him with the Meritorious Service Award.

Starting with his son's high school graduation in 1974, Rollin began hosting pig roasts for family, friends, and neighbors—using hogs he raised and a hand-built roaster. The tradition grew over the years, marking many graduations, weddings, reunions, and life's milestones. The roasted pork was excellent, and folks appreciated the effort Rollin put into every roast.

He remained dedicated to community and faith throughout his life. Rollin volunteered as a 4-H Leader and Cubmaster of Troop 97. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he served as an elder and usher. He enjoyed fishing, listening to Michigan State games while working on the farm, and traveling the country with his wife in their motorhome.

Rollin is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Mary Webb; four sons: Rollin (Paula Ochs) Webb of Monroe, John (Terri) Webb of Newport, Stephen Webb of Newport, and James (John Tobin) Webb of San Diego, CA; five grandchildren: Jennie (Chad) Willis, John (Rebecca Gilbert) Webb, Danielle (Andrew Edmunds) Webb, Stephen (Kaylee Dilley) Webb, and David (Dakota) Webb; twelve great-grandchildren: Landon, Matthew, Curtis, Sophia, Eastyn, Connor, Delilah, Layla, Olivia, Grace, Gavin, and Jonathan.

Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 4th at Bacarella Funeral Home in Monroe, Michigan. Rollin will lie in state on Saturday, April 5th at 12 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe, with the funeral beginning at 1 p.m. Rev.
