Rolland G. Hatfield, age 76 of Monroe, MI. passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at 4:00 AM in Mercy Memorial Nursing Care Center where he had been since January 31. Rolland had been in declining health for the past 6 months. Rolland was born February 26, 1930 in Monroe, MI the son of the late McNeal G. and Leona A. (Lazette) Hatfield. Rolland attended Monroe High School. Rolland served his country during the Korean War as a Corporal in the United States Army's 3rd Infantry Division. Rolland served from September 29, 1948 to September 28, 1951, for his meritorious service Rolland received the following; Army of Occupation Medal w/Clasp, Meritorious Unit Commendation and the Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze Stars. On February 25, 1956 Rolland married Mary L. Griffin at Monroe Alliance Church, the Rev. D.C. Swaney performed the ceremony. Rolland worked as a Glue Machine Operator for Consolidated Paper Company in Monroe for 24 years. He then went to work as a Production Laborer for Ford Motor Company in Milan, MI for 10 years retiring in 1989. Rolland was a member of First Baptist Church in Monroe, and a life member of the VFW Post 1138 in Monroe. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of Dundee Golf Club. Rolland also enjoyed crossword puzzles, computers and locksmithing. Rolland is survived by his beloved wife Mary, 2 loving children; Rolland M. Hatfield and Patricia M. (Chester) Panza Jr. both of Monroe, MI. In addition to his parents Rolland was preceded in death by an infant brother Raymond and a sister Virginia Carey. Visitation for Rolland will be held on Thursday from 4-9 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home where funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Friday, February 23, 2007 at 11:00 AM. His pastor the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Dunn pastor of First Baptist Church in Monroe will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park under the auspices of VFW Post 1138. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial be given to Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
