Robert G. Yoas, 81 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 27, 2013 in his home with his loving family at his side.
Born August 4, 1931 in Monroe, MI, Bob was the son of the late Earl and Alice (Goetz) Yoas. Bob attended school in Monroe and was a 1949 graduate of Monroe High School. After serving in the Korean War, Bob went on to further his education and received his BA from Michigan State University in 1957.
Bob served his country honorably and proudly in Korea from 1952 – 1953. For his heroism Bob received the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, the National Defense and United Nations Service Medal's with 1 overseas bar and the Combat Infantry Badge.
In September of 1954 Bob married the former Marilou Smith. Sadly, she preceded him in death in March of 1962. On August 18, 1968 Bob married the former Bronitte Cosby in Monroe. MI.
Bob was the Controller and the Secretary/Treasurer of Modern Packaging in Monroe from 1966-1982. Bob then went on to work as an agent for Farmers Insurance Group in Monroe, from which he retired in 1996.
Bob was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the church council and served as a past treasurer. Bob enjoyed being outdoors, especially sitting on his front porch and visiting with the neighbors. Most of all Bob enjoyed his family.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Bronitte, four loving daughters: Barbara J. (Bill) Spaniola of Muskegon, MI, Bonnie L. (Bill) Ussat of Dayton, OH, Brenda L (Tom Phillips) Jenkins of Leroy, IL, and Beverly S. (Dale) Altes of Bloomington, IL, four grandsons, two granddaughters, eight great granddaughters, five great grandsons, and a sister: Mary Thompson of Campbell, CA.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Bob was preceded in death by a grandson Jeff Miller, a great granddaughter and a great grandson.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 11:00 AM until 7:00 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home. On Tuesday he will lie in state at Zion Lutheran Church from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating his life at 11:00 AM. The Rev.'s Gary Tryggestad and Ross Ulrich will officiate. Private burial services will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery.
