Obituary

Robert D. Stiffler, age 90 of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital with his family by his side.
Born January 31, 1934 in Monroe, Bob was the son of the late Ora and Frances (Will) Stiffler. He attended Monroe Public Schools and married Gloria A. Hoffman on November 29, 1952 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maybee, MI. Together they raised two daughters.
In his youth, Bob was employed by Supreme Cleaning, the family dry cleaning business before he went to work at General Motors Hydramatic Transmission Plant in Toledo, OH. He was employed there for over 36 years, mostly as a Job Setter, before retiring in 1988. After retirement, Bob took pride working seasonally at Dooley Groves Orange Grove, where they had their winter home in Palmetto, Florida for the past 37 years.
Bob had a passion for cars, and was a member of the former Boarder Runners Car Club. Off and on, he personally owned hot rods and muscle cars that he liked to show off at auto shows. Bob was also a collector and restorer of classic license plates. Other hobbies included woodcarving, water skiing and metal detecting.
Bob is survived by his wife of 72 years, Gloria Stiffler; two daughters, Denise (Jerry) Jenkins and Lisa (Joey) Weiss, both of Monroe; three sisters, Jane (Larry) Zorn of LaSalle, Jean Suzor of Monroe, and Judy (Bob) Goetz of East Lansing ,MI; 7 grandchildren: Janae (Dustin) Jones, Jessica (Marvin) Burt, Kayla (Brandon) Savage, Nichole (Jeremy) Bayer, Joey (Lexi) Weiss, McCall (Chad) Martin, and Riquel Weiss; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Stiffler and a great-grandchild, Mazin Savage.
Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. until time of funeral service at 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27th at Bacarella Funeral Home. Rev. Fr. Henry Rebello will officiate. Cremation will follow in accordance with Bob's wishes.
