Robert L. Richardson, 65 years, of Monroe, MI passed away on Friday, February 19, 2010 at Mercy Memorial Hospital. Robert was born the son of a share cropper, Charles and Annie Bell (Barnes) Richardson on September 17, 1944 in Lewisville, AR. He attended Foster High School in Lewisville where he lettered in football. In 1965 Robert moved to Monroe from Arkansas. On June 1, 1968 in Monroe, Robert married his beloved wife the former Ruth E. Watkins whom he shared his life with for 45 years. Robert worked as a maintenance man for Monroe County Community College from 1968-1976. In 1976 he went to work for Detroit Edison as a power plant operator where he worked until his retirement in 2006. Robert was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Lewisville where he was baptized at the age of 14. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking, and his time as a 4-H Leader in the Good Times Group in Monroe. Most of all Robert enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Robert is survived by his beloved wife Ruth, 3 loving children; Robert A., Regina R., and Renee' J. Richardson all of Monroe, 11 cherished grandchildren, 1 treasured great grandson and one treasured great granddaughter due to come into this world in April, a brother Ben (Ruthie) Richardson of Romulus, MI, and 3 sisters; Fannie L. Hicks of Gary IN, Annie Bell Bass of West Memphis, AR, and Pearlie Mae Garland of Little Rock, AR. Sadly, Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father in law Jacob and Jonnie Mae Watkins, 2 brothers; Charles and Willie and a sister Lucille, Briggs. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 1, 2010 in the Bacarella Funeral home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe, from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating his life at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Al Overstreet of Al Overstreet Evangelistic Ministry will officiate. Interment will follow in Historic Woodland Cemetery in Monroe.
