Obituary

Robert J. Kuehnlein, age 74 of Monroe, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.
Born October 2, 1948 in Monroe, Bob was the son of the late Robert and Mildred (Parran) Kuehnlein. He attended Holy Ghost Lutheran School and graduated from Monroe High School in 1966.
Bob served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War as a Seabee, serving from July 23, 1968 until being honorably discharged on April 9, 1970. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon. Before being deployed, he married Linda M. Franzen on October 5, 1968 at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.
Bob was employed as a Receiving Checker by Ford Motor Company. He worked at the Woodhaven Stamping Plant for 38 years before retiring in 2005.
Among Bob's many hobbies and interests, he enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, 4-wheeling, farming, and drag-racing his 1955 Chevy Instigator.
Bob is survived by his wife Linda; two daughters, Tamara (Jerry) Schmidt of Monroe and Terri (Roy) Thorsell of Wixom, MI; two brothers, William (Elaine) Kuehnlein of Rogers City, MI and Kevin (Holley) Kuehnlein of Brownstown, MI; five grandchildren: Jaren Schmidt, Camden Schmidt, Morgen Schmidt, Audrianna Thorsell, and Scarlett Thorsell.
Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Apr. 4th at Bacarella Funeral Home. Bob will lie in state at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church where services will begin at 11 a.m. The church pastor, Rev. Lee D. Cullen, Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery with military honors provided by Monroe VFW Post 1138.
