Obituary

Robert J. “Bob” D’Haene, 87 years a lifelong resident of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Elderly Solutions in Monroe.

Born November 14, 1938, in Monroe, Bob was the son of the late Harry and Irene (Finn) D’Haene. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. Mary Catholic Church in Monroe. He attended St. Mary Grade School and was a 1956 graduate of Monroe Catholic Central High School.

On September 26, 1959, Bob married his beloved wife, the former Dorothy Lou Morris, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Sadly, she preceded him in death on August 6, 2025, after 65 years of marriage.

After graduation Bob began working as the maintenance supervisor for the Hall of Divine Child from there, he went on to hold the same position at both St. Mary Academy and the IHM Mother House until his retirement in 1997. However, even after retirement he was called in to deal with certain maintenance issues.

Bob was a life member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Monroe Council 1266 Knights of Columbus, and a member of Monroe Center for Healthy Aging. Bob enjoyed working with his hands and was a master at building and repairing things. He also kept an immaculate yard, making sure there were no leaves covering his grass in the fall. Most of all Bob loved time spent with family.

Bob is survived by four loving daughters; Patricia A. (Aaron) Poley of Kalamazoo, Susan M. (Mark) Carollo of Monroe, Cynthia M. (James) McHone of Ida, and Deborah L. (Richard) Loughridge of Grass Lake, MI, nine cherished grandchildren, eight treasured great grandchildren, four precious great great grandchildren, and a son in law, Robert McKinney.

In addition to his wife and parents, Bob was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane McKinney and a brother, James D’Haene.

In keeping with Bob’s wishes all services will be private, and he will be entombed next to his wife at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Bob’s family would like to thank the staff at Elderly Solutions and Elara Caring Hospice for the incredible care and support.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association .
