Robert H. Boss, 85, unexpectedly died on Sunday, October 20, 2024. He is survived by his son, Mark (Diane) Boss, daughters Ann Boss-Cronin (Jay Cronin) and Michelle Boss; cherished "Papa" to his grandchildren Mitchell (Jordan) Boss, Madison (Daniel) McNabb and Brad (Emma) Boss, Alexander and Lucy Cronin, and Jake, Sidney and Luke Thayer; "Old Papa" to his great grandchildren Marshall and Hunter Boss, and Jackson McNabb; brother David (Arla) Boss, sister Deborah Boss, brothers-in-law Frank, John (Jan), Ralph and William (Sandy) Lipford. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret "Muggie" C. Boss, brother-in-law Rocque Lipford, sister-in-law Mary Lipford, his mother, Mary Jayne Boss and father, Howard Boss.
Bob was born in Monroe and graduated from St. John's Grade School and Catholic Central High School, where he enjoyed being a 3-sport lettered athlete and graduated Valedictorian of his class. He furthered his academics at Michigan State – GO GREEN, GO WHITE! After college, he was called to join the family business, Boss Agency, Inc. and wed his high-school sweetheart, Muggie. Not known as a world traveler, Bob preferred to venture by car, taking road trips for 20+ years to Grand Haven, Michigan, to enjoy family. He also vacationed in Traverse City with his co-pilot, Muggie, sometimes bringing back a bottle or two of Grand Traverse Late Harvest Reisling. As an avid sportsman and athlete himself, Bob proudly attended athletic events of his three children and eight grandchildren, contributing snacks and a promise of dinner after the game, along with sage advice on sports and life in general. He was a member of the Canvasback Gun Club and the Monroe County Rod & Gun Club. Bob remained active and fit through life with hobbies being an avid boater on Lake Erie, golfer, hunter and fisherman; as well as connoisseur of all things lawn and lawn related. He loved watching all kinds of sports, but was a faithful supporter of his Spartans, as well as the Detroit Lions, Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings. He was always up for a game of cards, crossword puzzle or Sudoku. His preference was to "empower" his family members with any tech challenges encountered on his digital devices. Not known for his adventurous palate and vigilantly avoiding all things "spicy," his tastebuds drew him to All-American classics like burgers, steaks, chicken wings, sliders, spaghetti, pizza and whatever he put on the grill.
He was the CEO and ultimate Boss of our family, a pillar of strength and wisdom in the community, quick-witted with a huge heart, and stayed deeply connected to those he loved. Please join us in Monroe to remember and celebrate Bob Boss! Visitation will be held Saturday, October 26, from 1-6pm at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 South Telegraph in Monroe, Michigan, with funeral services beginning at 6 pm . In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate in Bob's memory to: St. Mary's Catholic Parish Christian Women Group (monthly soup/salad luncheons) and/or St. Mary's Catholic Central (SMCC).
