Obituary

Richard A. Jakubczak, 81, of Monroe, died at 10:40 PM Monday, March 12, 2007 in the Foundation Park Care Center, Toledo, OH where he had been a resident for 1 ½ years. He had been in poor health for a week. He was born April 24, 1925 in Detroit, MI to Joseph and Lottie Jakubczak. He served in the US Army from July 1, 1943 – February 26, 1946 receiving the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, 2 overseas bars, and the good conduct medal. He was married on September 13, 1947 to Helen V. Wozniak in Detroit. A 37-year employee of the City of Detroit, he retired in 1982. He was a former member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Detroit and the Polish League of American Veteran's Post #75, Dearborn, MI, and a current member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Monroe. Survivors include his wife, Helen of Monroe, a son, Richard (Mary Ann) of Monroe, daughters, Suzanne (Jerry) Darby of Joplin, MO and Lisa Shruga of Livonia, sisters, Angeline Andrezjewski of Canton, MI and Irene Ochalek of Florida, and 5 grandchildren. Sadly, his parents and brothers, Leonard and Joseph, preceded him in death. Friends may call Thursday at the Bacarella Funeral Home from 1-8 PM where a rosary will be prayed at 5 PM. He will Lie in State Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church from 10 AM until a Mass of the Resurrection at 11 AM, burial will follow at St. Hedwig Cemetery, Dearborn Heights, MI. Fr. Marc A. Gawronski will officiate. Memorial gifts in his name may be given to the Alzheimer Association.
