Obituary

Richard Joseph Cousino, age 82, of Monroe, passed away Friday, March 6, 2026 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.
Richard was born March 22, 1943 in Newport, he was the son of Clayton and Margaret (Duvall) Cousino. He married Betty Lou Riggs August 26, 1967.
He attended St. Charles Church and grade school in Newport. He also attended Monroe Catholic Central.
Richard proudly served his country in the US Navy.
He was a pipefitter for General Motors at the Toledo Powertrain Plant, before his retirement in 2011.
Richard was an avid sailor, he hand built a 16 foot sailboat, he also restored a 20 foot O'Day and eventually purchased at 28 O'Day sailboat. He was a "health nut", he ran nearly daily for 40 years, would do weight training, meditate and still walked 18,00 steps per day until his health declined. He also enjoyed reading and loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty; two children, Shana (Mark) Stang of Monroe and Dack (Jennifer) Cousino of Berthoud, CO; a brother, Doug (Sue) Cousino of Monroe; two grandchildren Brock and Kaia.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Lynn Cousino and a sister, Janice Straubb.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no public services held. Bacarella Funeral Home is assisting the family.
