Richard A. Canode, age 78 of Monroe, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2025 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital.
Born April 30, 1947 in Vinton, OH, Rich was the son of the late John and Sylvia (Wiseman) Canode. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from July 12, 1966 until being honorably discharged on July 11, 1968. Rich was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Rich was a patriotic American and proud to have served in the U.S. military.
On June 7, 1969, Rich married Connie Wilson in Trenton, MI. and together they raised three children. He later married Sandra Renaud on April 10, 2003 in Toledo, OH. Sadly, she passed away on May 30, 2013.
Rich was employed by Ford Motor Company at the Monroe Stamping Plant where he was known as the "Basement Rat". He retired in 2004 after working there for 31 years.
Rich enjoyed being around his grandkids and attending their events. His hobbies included camping, traveling, deer hunting, and visiting casinos.
Rich is survived by two daughters, Lisa Poley and Tracy (Jim) Beeler, both of Monroe; three step-children, Tracie Kuska, Carla (Paul) Latondress, and Jeff (Denise) Lockard; two sisters, Sally (Jim) See of Matthews, NC and Jeannie Henry of Wellston, OH; four grandchildren: Nichole (Jimmy) Roberts, Chelsea (Michael) Bechard, Nikki (David) Brown, and Shawnee (Josh Rigsby) Poley; eight great-grandchildren; step son-in-law, Johnny Depew; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife Sandy, Rich is preceded in death by a son, Richard Scott Canode; three brothers, Harley, Joe, and Tim Canode; and step-daughter, Patty Depew.
Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14th at Bacarella Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Monroe VFW Post 1138 will provide military honors followed by Rev. Roy Southerland.
