Obituary

Raymond M. Robinson, 90, of Venice, FL died peacefully, February 9, 2010 at Capital Hospice in Arlington, VA. Mr. Robinson now joins his wife of 65 years, Shirley Robinson, daughter of George and Leona Stumpmeyer of Monroe, MI, who passed in November 2008. He is survived by his son, Donald Robinson, daughter-in-law, Florence Robinson, and two grandchildren, JD and Stephanie Robinson, all of Arlington, VA. Ray was born in Dearborn, MI and earned both his undergraduate and master's degrees in metallurgical engineering from the University of Michigan. His name is on 17 patents in that field. He greatly enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and Sudoku's to keep his mind sharp, and generally could knock off a New York Times crossword puzzle in ink in five to ten minutes. He kept those abilities right up to the end. He was also an avid curler and once captained his team to first place and twice to second in the annual North American Bonspiel. He and his wife Shirley were also excellent ballroom and square dance dancers, usually dancing most days of the week. They both enjoyed travelling and cruises and visited every continent. Mr. Robinson was a very religious man and an active member of his church, the Auburn Road Presbyterian Church in America in Venice, FL, and truly lived according to the Word. All who knew him saw him as one of the most intelligent, kindest, honest, and generous man that they had encountered. He will be sorely missed in this world, but his time here will be celebrated by the love and compassion he showed to all and left for us to cherish. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe, from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating his life at 11:00 AM. The Rev. James Jacobs, chaplain of Mercy Memorial Hospital will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
