Raymond J. Anteau

Raymond, J. “Skip” Anteau, 79 years, of Monroe, Michigan went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Medilodge of Monroe. He had been in declining health for the past two years. Born November 15, 1934 in Detroit, MI, Ray was the son of the late Raymond G. and Kathleen E. (Ryan) Anteau. The family moved to Monroe in 1946 from Melvindale, MI. Ray was a 1954 graduate of Monroe Catholic Central High School where he excelled at sports. On September 7, 1957 Ray married the former Janice M. “Missy” Jewell at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Monroe. Ray served his country honorably and proudly as a Military Policeman in the United States Army from October of 1954 to October of 1956. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for his service. Ray was employed by Floral City Furniture, Durocher’s TV and Appliance, and La-Z-Boy Furniture Showcase Shoppes as a Sales Manager. Ray retired in 1997. Ray was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Moose Lodge #884. Ray was also a member of the Power House Gym, where when healthy, he worked out four to five times a week. He enjoyed boxing and time spent with family and friends Ray is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Janice, four loving sons: Michael, Scott (Kim), Paul and Timothy (Carol) Anteau all of Monroe, four cherished grandchildren: Scott Jr., Hayley, Elizabeth and Luke Anteau, and a sister: Joann (Robert) Rousselo of Monroe. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by three infant siblings: Rosemary, Robert and Kathleen. Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 2-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI, 48161. On Monday, June 2, 2014 he will lie in state at St. Mary’s Catholic Church from 10:00 AM until Mass of the Resurrection celebrating his life at 11:00 AM. Fr. David Burgard, pastor of the church, will officiate. In keeping with Ray’s wishes cremation will follow and his ashes will be interred at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association, Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
